What are the advantage and disadvantages of trying to learn C using Visual Studio?

I want to learn C, but everyone always recommends different programs. However, th one most frequently occuring suggestion seems to be Visual Studio.
Could someone please tell me what the advantages and disadvantges of using Visual Studio are.
Also, if possible, could you tell me where I can get myself a copy of Visual Studio from (preferably for free).

What is a VPN?

VPN is (Virtual Private Network) were first used by companies to enable their employees to securely access internal systems such as email remotely (e.g. from home or while on business trips).
